CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY PROJECTS
GIVING BACK
Conservation is at The Heart of Everything that we do
LOCAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS
While staying with us at Roca River Camp, our guests have the opportunity to visit and make a contribution to our local conservation partners, including the Mara Elephant Project, The Mara Predator Project, The Anne Kent Taylor Fund, and the Mara Raptor Project.
Being able to visit, and make a donation to these projects directly, means that all guests have the incredible opportunity to learn from the conservation heroes local to our camp in the Maasai Mara. They are able to also make a donation directly to these causes, and help maintain their incredible efforts in our area.
EDUCATION FUNDRAISING
Education is fundamental for the preservation of our communities and wildlife in Kenya. Not only is the Mobile Expeditions team committed to our local conservation efforts that form an integral part of educting the communities that we live among, but Ross and Caro have committed to supporting the young minds in both the Maasai Mara area, and in the Baringo area.
Through fundraising, they are able to provide much-needed funds for school fees for children in the areas that are so close to their heart.
RUKO COMMUNITY CONSERVANCY
Ruko is a community conservancy on the eastern shores of Lake Baringo. Ross and Caro were greatly involved in the setting up of the Ruko Community Wildlife Trust (RCWT) after clashes between the Pokot and Njemps brought their elders to the area looking for an urgent solution to ongoing tribal conflict.
Working in conjunction with the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), Ruko is a fair partnership between the Njemps and Pokot communities of Lake Baringo, whose aim is to restore and protect the region for the benefit of its wildlife and its communities.
To date, 34 Impala and 8 Rothchild’s giraffe have been successfully trans-located to the conservancy established on Ruko, and plans are underway to continue re-introducing wildlife species, namely plains game, to the area.
